Students in two of Florida's largest districts are outperforming their peers in math and reading at other large, urban schools.
Test results show fourth and eighth-grade students in Miami-Dade and Hillsborough counties had higher average scores at nearly every level on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also
known as the Nation's Report Card.
The only group that did not perform better was eighth-grade Miami-Dade students in math. Their scores were about the same as the average for students in large cities.
The U.S. Department of Education released the test scores for the two Florida counties and 19 other urban districts on Wednesday.
It was the first time Hillsborough participated in the study and the second time for Miami-Dade.
Overall, Miami-Dade's scores were not significantly different from 2009.
