Gov. Rick Scott is expected to swear in a new sheriff for Union County.
Brad Whitehead was appointed on Wednesday to serve the remainder of his father's term as Union County Sheriff. Jerry Whitehead died Dec. 18 at age 60 following a brief illness.
The Florida Times-Union reports Brad Whitehead will be sworn in at 10 a.m. Thursday during a ceremony at the Union County Courthouse.
His father had served as sheriff since 1985, and his father had also served as the county's head law enforcement officer.
