South Florida Charity Carries On After Loss

Cancer charity whose limo was stolen moves forward

A year after a South Florida charity suffered a heartbreaking loss, its founder is still making dreams come true.

"Drops of Hope" was founded by Michael Fischer in part to help local families of kids fighting cancer arrive to and from their treatments in a luxurious limo.

That's until the limo was stolen in December 2011.

"The people who were working on it had disappeared, and the building they had repaired it in was abandoned, and everything was confiscated," Fischer said.

Fischer had worked as a chauffeur, giving kids rides in style to their treatments.

"We pick them up at 6:30 in the morning, and we don't bring them back sometimes until 6 at night," he said.

To buy that first limo, Fischer took on heavy debts on several credit cards. Now he's taking on more debt, paying out of pocket to limo companies all over South Florida to keep up his good work.

Being limo-less has even helped Fischer make over his charity.

"We provide room makeovers for children and families that don't have access to basic essentials whether its beds or mattresses," he said.
