South Florida Man Crushed By Tortilla Oven

3,000-pound oven falls off forklift, crushes and kills man

A man was killed when he was crushed by a 3,000-pound tortilla oven in Palm Springs Tuesday.

The incident happened behind La Reina Supermarket on South Congress Avenue as the man was trying to move the oven with two others and it fell off a forklift, according to WPTV.

"They never made it to the truck," Palm Springs Police Lt. Sal Abruscato said. "They were just using a hand forklift, for lack of a better term, and somehow it lost its footing there."

Palm Beach Fire Rescue workers had to use a high pressure air bag to lift the oven off the man's body. The victim wasn't identified.

La Reina was going out of business and the oven had just been auctioned off.
