Suspended Tamarac Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco Returns to Work

Mayor heads back to work after corruption charges dismissed

A day after Gov. Rick Scott revoked her suspension, Tamarac Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco returned to office to a standing ovation Wednesday.

"Thank you all," Flansbaum-Talabisco told the crowd at Wednesday's commission meeting. "It is great to be back, it is really great to be back."

Earlier this month, Broward Circuit Judge Cynthia Imperato dismissed criminal corruption charges against Flansbaum-Talabisco.

Imperato ruled there was no evidence Flansbaum-Talabisco had received any personal benefit in her dealings with developers.

Flansbaum-Talabisco had been accused of "allowing developers Bruce and Shawn Chait to clandestinely contribute $21,000 through a political action committee to support her 2006 campaign for mayor in exchange for her favorable votes on the commission agenda involving their company, Prestige Homes," according to the release from the Broward State Attorney's Office.

After surrendering to authorities on charges of bribery, official misconduct, unlawful compensation and conspiracy to commit unlawful compensation, Flansbaum-Talabisco was suspended by Scott.

Flansbaum-Talabisco had pleaded not guilty and insisted she did nothing wrong. Prosecutors said they plan to appeal the judge's ruling.
