Doctors hailed Cunningham's remarkable recovery at a news conference Wednesday.

"He's made amazing improvements, he's able to do so much more, walking," Pediatric Rehabilitation Physician Seema Khurana said.

Cunningham had been running to catch the bus in the 1200 block of E. Sample Road when he jumped on its exterior, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. At least one witness said Cunningham had been stuck with part of his arm caught in the door before he fell and was run over.

The driver of the bus, Reinaldo Soto, was suspended and demoted after the incident.

Cunningham will continue outpatient therapy after his release.

"He behaves like a child should behave and he's able to have conversations with people," Khurana said. "He's a miracle and the way he's improved with us he'll continue to improve."
