Three Arrests Made in Miami Postal Worker Robberies

Teen and two juveniles arrested in string of mail carrier robberies

Three arrests have been made in a string of postal worker robberies in Miami.

Steven Daniels, 18, and two unidentified juveniles have been arrested in the string of robberies earlier this month, Chief Postal Inspector for Miami Henry Gutierrez said at a Wednesday news conference.

Daniels and one of the juveniles were arrested for the robbery of a female postal worker in Miami Gardens on Oct. 5. The other juvenile was arrested for an unrelated robbery on a letter carrier just days later, on Oct. 17, in North Miami.

In one of the robberies, a female letter carrier was beaten. A gun was believed to have been used in the other.

A third robbery, which happened in North Miami on Oct. 14, hasn't been solved.

Daniels was charged with armed robbery and was being held on $100,000 bond Wednesday. It was unknown whether he had an attorney.

The robberies weren't tied to a sophisticated identity theft ring, Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez called the string of robberies unusual, noting that 250,000 postal workers are on the street each day delivering mail in the U.S., and there were less than 100 robberies reported in the last year.

"There's nothing more important than the protection of our letter carriers," Gutierrez said.

The Postal Inspection Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the third robbery. Anyone with info is asked to call 1-877-876-2455.
