A flood watch was in effect for the eastern half of South Florid until Friday morning, the National Weather Service said.
The watch extended from West Palm Beach to Key Largo as rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches fell in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Some isolated areas got as much as 5 to 8 inches of rain.
Overnight showers were swift to move in early in the morning, leaving roads wet for the morning commute throughout South Florida. There was steady, heavy rain in the morning, but it may taper off in the afternoon, said weather service meteorologist Steve Konarik.
"At the same time there is still going to be numerous showers throughout all of South Florida," he said.
There were reports of street flooding in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.
As tropical moisture surges back into South Florida, shower and storm chances stay elevated through the rest of the work week.
The threat for rip currents will stay in place on our beaches into Thursday as strong high pressure remains anchored off shore, feeding in the breeze.
Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and locally heavy downpours possible. Highs will reach 85 and lows will be around 75.

Thursday will be partly sunny, with showers and thunderstorms likely and temperatures around 84. Friday will see similar conditions with highs around 87.
Some drier air may settle into the region by the weekend. That should help taper back storm chances and yield some more sunshine.
