A Tampa Bay area woman has been charged with killing a kitten by throwing it against a wooden fence.

Pinellas County jail records show that 27-year-old Shontia Niree James was arrested Monday and charged with felony animal cruelty. She was being held on $2,500 bail.

The Tampa Tribune reports that James was outside her Largo apartment early Monday morning when she picked up a 15-week-old kitten near her front door and threw it into a wooden fence. An arrest report says James had only been a few feet from the fence.

The report didn't say why she threw the cat or whether she knew the animal.

Jail records didn't list an attorney for James.
