Woman Nearly Abducted on Pompano Beach Street: BSO

Authorities release sketch of man wanted in attempted abduction of woman

Authorities are looking for a man who grabbed a woman and tried to abduct her on a Pompano Beach street last week.

The incident happened around 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 7 as the 26-year-old woman was walking in the area of Southwest 14th Street and Southwest 2nd Avenue, the Broward Sheriff's Office said in a release Wednesday.

Authorities said the woman was walking near a gas station when an older model, dark-colored pickup began slowly moving toward her. The truck stopped next to her and a white male got out and grabbed her.

"She fought, she screamed, she punched, she kicked, she tried to do everything in her power to free herself from the suspect," BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said.

The suspect punched her in the face. She was able to break free and run home, the BSO said.

Authorities released a sketch of the suspect, who is described as between 40 and 50 years old, about 6 feet tall, with a 5 o'clock shadow, who was wearing a white button-down shirt, blue jeans and blue baseball cap.

According to the victim, the man's hands felt callused and he had an extreme body odor. He also appeared to be living out of his truck, which was in poor condition and had tinted windows and a damaged driver's side headlight.

The man in the sketch has struck a note of fear in the neighborhood.

"It's mortifying, it's terrifying, I was robbed at gunpoint two years ago, and I'm by myself, so when that happens it's terrible,” said resident Pattie Orr.

A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
