Woman Remains Critical After Being Struck by Shuttle Bus in Hollywood

Husband dead, wife critical after crash outside Westin Diplomat Hotel

An elderly woman remains in critical condition after she and her husband were struck by a shuttle bus outside a Hollywood Beach hotel, police said Friday.

Fernande Chaput, 74, remains hospitalized at Memorial Regional following the Wednesday evening crash outside the Westin Diplomat Hotel at 3555 South Ocean Drive, Hollywood Police Sgt. Pablo Vanegas said.

Chaput and her husband, Lucien, were walking northbound and crossing the exit driveway of the hotel when they were struck by a shuttle bus driven by Alex Garcia, 45, Vanegas said.

Both were taken to the hospital where Lucien Chaput, 80, was pronounced dead. The couple are part-time residents

No charges have been filed against Garcia. The incident is still being investigated, Vanegas said.
