Woman Shot Outside Sunrise Church in Stable Condition: Police

Police identify gunman, victim in church shooting

The woman who was shot as she left a service at a Sunrise church Sunday by a man who later killed himself was in stable condition, police said Monday.

Denise Miller, 48, remains hospitalized at Broward General following the shooting at Faith Center Church at 5555 Northwest 95th Avenue, Sunrise Police spokesman Michelle Eddy said.

Miller was shot several times but managed to drive away in the church's parking lot where she was later found. Her 12-year-old daughter was inside her car but escaped unharmed, police said.

The gunman, 56-year-old Kelvin Adams, shot himself at the scene, Eddy said. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Adams is believed to possibly be Miller's former boyfriend, police said. More information is expected to be released later Monday, Eddy said.

Faith Center Church, also known as Faith Center Ministries, drew a large turnout Sunday with a special guest speaker, congregants said. No one else was injured in the shooting.
