The girlfriend of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair became obsessed with the married father of four and was consumed with jealousy when she shot him and turned the gun on herself, family members said.

Sahel Kazemi -- known as Jenni -- was swept off her feet by McNair when she met the 36-year-old former pro athlete when she worked as a waitress at a Nashville Dave & Busters and couldn't bare the thought of her dream life with McNair turning into a nightmare, her family and friends told the New York Post

The hometown hero bought her a car and took her on vacations -- including to his farm in Mississippi -- and she fell head over heels for him, the New York Post reported.  He even vowed to ditch his wife and four kids for the 20-year-old brunette beauty.

Kazemi's family was charmed by McNair when he met them at the end of May and told them he planned to divorce his wife and marry the young waitress.

There is no documentation indicating McNair intended to divorce his wife.

"We were shocked," one of Kazemi's sisters told the paper. "We've all been fooled."

McNair helped Kazemi move into her Nashville apartment and put the down payment on a black 2007 Escalade.

She kept pictures taken of the pair on her cell phone during a recent trip to Key West, one of many exotic destinations the two visited together.

But shortly into their six-month affair, Kazemi began to question McNair's intentions.

Kazemi thought she was pregnant when she headed to Las Vegas to meet up with McNair in a three-day trip she hoped would bring the two closer together. But McNair never showed up to meet her, according to the Post.

A week later, Kazemi spotted a woman leaving McNair's condo and suspected he was stepping out on her. The moment was a turning point for Kazemi, who became consumed with jealousy and was dogged by financial woes, the Post reported.

"We gave her advice," Kazemi's niece, Sepideh Salamni, told the Post. "We told her [McNair] had a wife and children. It was always a red flag, but she never took our advice."

Two days before the shooting, Kazemi was pulled over on for speeding but and busted for a DUI with McNair in the car. The ex-pro left the scene in a cab but later bailed his gal pal out of jail.

That same day Kazemi bought a gun for $100 from a friend in the parking lot of Dave & Busters, cops told the Post.

Kazemi spoke to her sister hours before the shooting and didn't appear distraught but did speak of McNair's tryst with another woman, according to the Post.

Kazemi allegedly shot McNair four times -- twice in the head and twice in the chest -- as he slept on the sofa in the living room of a condo he rented in Nashville. She then turned the gun on herself.
