Rosenhaus Breaks Silence In Groin-Gate

"I don’t think [Roth's stock has] dropped at all," Rosenhaus says

Since setting off the biggest mystery in Dolphins training camp last Sunday night, agent Drew Rosenhaus has been quiet.  Too quiet, really, for a guy who accidentally blew his client's cover in front of everyone and alerted Dolphins staff to the fact that Matt Roth's pants weren't ailing -- they were lit like the Hindenburg.

Last night, Rosenhaus took to his regular appearance on Channel 7's Sports Xtra and addressed the fact that while Roth has been sitting on the sidelines, Jason Taylor is poised to steal his starting job.

"I don’t think [Roth's stock has] dropped at all," Rosenhaus said. "I’m not surprised Jason Taylor has been exceptional. That’s who Jason Taylor is, but remember he did sign with the Dolphins for less than $2 million. They did sign him for a backup contract to be a situational player.

"Now Jason Taylor is very capable, but Matt Roth is a great fit for this defense. He's 270 pounds. He’s like having another defensive lineman out there. He is a monster at the point of attack. He had a number of sacks last year. I think Matt and Jason will do very well together."

The fact that an agent is promoting his client at the expense of another is not news, especially where Rosenhaus -- the human equivalent of a greased watermelon -- is concerned.

But the idea of a guy whose client makes $700,000 in an expiring rookie contract scoffing at the future Hall of Famer breathing down Roth's neck because of his "less than $2 million" is pretty laughable.  If playing time were determined by contract, it would certainly be the extension-less Roth who'd become friends with the bench.

Of course, Roth may find himself there anyway.  Taylor's been awful busy proving he's not a liability against the run after all, not to mention dominating the field in Davie. In the weekend scrimmage, the "capable" man with the golden groin racked up 2 sacks and a hurry, caused Vernon Carey to jump offsides by stunting, and "blew up" Anthony Fasano.

For those keeping track at home, that's just one week into Taylor's switch to the strong side.

It's not too late for a healthy Roth to win the majority of time, with the Dolphins sending in Taylor for obvious passing situations. But considering his position with the Dolphins right now is "who?", it's not one from which his agent can talk -- not without sounding like an idiot, anyway.

Janie Campbell thinks Dwyane Wade should make a Band-Wade big enough for Drew Rosenhaus' mouth. Her work has appeared in irreverent sports sites around the Internet.
