Suicide Car Bomb Kills 49 in Pakistan
Interior minister pledges to go after insurgents near Afghan border

A suicide car bomber struck near a popular market in the northwest Pakistan city of Preshwar on Friday, killing at least 49 people and wounding 100, The Associated Press reported.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the terrorist attack, the country’s deadliest since a March mosque bombing elsewhere in the country that killed 50. The deadly blast comes days after the Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in the lobby of the U.N. World Food Program in Pakistan’s capital that killed five people.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister said the country now “had no other option” but to respond with a planned offensive against insurgents along the Afghan-Pakistan border in an area called South Waziristan.
The U.S. has maintained that militants along the border there are supporting the insurgency in Afghanistan, and has called for the Pakistan military to go after them.
