Local Stores Ready For Small Business Saturday

Like shopping the day after Thanksgiving, you can also save big while supporting local businesses.
"We seek out brands that other people don't carry, especially the big stores," said David Cook, the owner of Hands Stationers in Delray Beach.
One customer drove 30 miles just to go to Hands Stationers because they have something no one else offers - imported fountain pens. Cook said that's just one reason to "shop small." He also said giving local stores business not only keeps neighbors employed, but also supports the community.
Now, American Express is making it easier with "Small Business Saturday" for the second year in a row. It's a day dedicated to supporting small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.
"We need small businessmen because they are the base of our community," Phyllis Blackman said while she was shopping.
"When I was a teenager, there were no malls or huge stores. We just shopped in small stores," another shopper, Eleanor Huneke said. "Now, it offends me how they ask people to come in at midnight. It's insane."
Here is a little incentive: American Express will give you a $25 credit when you buy something at a small business on Saturday with your registered American Express card. Don't know where to go? The "Small Business Saturday" Facebook page will give you plenty of options.
"As soon as we found out about Small Business Saturday, we put signs in the window." Cook said.
Unlike Black Friday, there's no waiting in lines, finding parking is easier, and the money you spend stays right there in your neighborhood.
