Would a square hot dog taste as good?

HVP stands for Hydrolized Vegetable Protein, and it's a common ingredient used as a flavor enhancer in many processed foods including some of your favorites: hot dogs, dips, soups, and seasoned snack foods.

Now some of those products are being recalled.

Basic Foods Flavor in Las Vegas is a manufacturer of HVP, and a strain of salmonella was found in its processing equipment.  While no illnesses have been reported, salmonella can be serious even deadly. For a list of the foods being recalled go to  www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/hvpcp
