Miami Cop Pleads Guilty to Selling Stolen Bluetooth Shipment

Ricardo Martinez faces a year in prison

An undercover Miami cop pleaded guilty Monday to federal charges, admitting he tried to sell a stolen shipment of Bluetooth headsets.

Ricardo Martinez was an undercover officer when he allegedly conspired with a thief to sell the 10,000 cell phone accessories on the black market. Martinez's cut of the deal would have been around $40,000, prosecutors said.

Martinez was not charged in the actual theft of the shipment of goods from Chicago and faces about a year in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for April 1.

The company that shipped the headsets is owned by Martinez's wife, but she has not been implicated in any wrongdoing.

The 12-year veteran resigned from the force last month, but is still under investigation for two shootings in Liberty City and Overtown in which Martinez gunned down both suspects.

Martinez's attorneys claim the stress from the shootings and the pending investigation may have led to the criminal behavior.
