Mom Purposely Pulled Tot Into Traffic as Punishment: Police

Lauderhill woman arrested after pulling 3-year-old into intersection

A South Florida mother has been arrested and charged with child abuse after she led her 3-year-old son into a busy intersection where the two were hit by a car, police said.

Jasmine Simms, 41, was with her son at the intersection of Northwest 34th Ave. and Sunrise Blvd. in Lauderhill on Oct. 13 when the pair were hit by a car that didn't have enough time to stop, according to police.

Simms had allegedly made comments that she intended to take the boy into traffic. When Simms pulled the toddler into the intersection against the light, the car struck her and propelled the boy into the air.

According to police, both Simms and her son "suffered great bodily harm."

Simms was being held on $17,500 bond early Tuesday.
