Accused Cat Killer Case Moves Forward Without DNA Evidence

Tyler Weinman will still face charges despite negative DNA tests

The case against accused South Florida cat killer Tyler Weinman will move ahead as planned, despite DNA test results that show nothing linking the teen to the killings.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney's office confirmed Wednesday that there is no DNA evidence available in the case against Weinman, who was arrested last June in the mutilations and deaths of 21 cats last summer throughout Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay.

There is still other evidence that links the teen to the killings and will allow the case to move forward, the State Attorney's office said.

Weinman, 19, has been charged with 21 counts each of felony animal cruelty and improperly disposing of an animal body in last year's killing spree.

Police said they found knives hidden in Weinman's room after his arrest, and also said a tracking device on his car placed him near the scene of many of the killings.

In February, it was revealed that Miami-Dade's crime lab found no human DNA on 11 of the cats that Weinman is accused of killing.

Weinman is still under house arrest awaiting trial.
