Bah Humbug! State Bans the Holidays at Toll Booths

FDOT gets back at complaining Christian group in a major way

A toll booth is no place for holiday cheer.

That's the message from the Florida Department of Transportation, which announced it is banning holiday decorations of any kind at toll booths along the Florida Turnpike.

You'd think motorists should be at least allowed to see a bobble head Santa or a mini Christmas tree while they are being raided for quarters by the Turnpike toll booth operator, but not this year.

While the rule has always been not to allow decorations in the toll booths, the Turnpike Enterprise went out of its way to make a public announcement Tuesday, likely because of complaints from a Christian organization during Halloween about some ghoulish decorations.

"Our job is to remove distractions, not create them," a DOT statement on the issue read. "Drivers should be concentrating on the car in front of them, not looking at displays on the side of the building or trying to view decorations."

Remember to have exact change for the Scrooges in a toll booth near you.
