It's good to see that vote of confidence is still a sports firing fixture.

Linebacker Matt Roth has been released by the Miami Dolphins, a move that comes a week after coach Tony Sparano lauded his work off the bench. frankly, it didn't come fast enough.

Roth missed training camp and the season's first five games with a groin injury, then compiled four tackles in Miami's last four games. Still, Sparano said Roth was "really impressive" in a 25-23 win over Tampa Bay on Nov. 15.

Roth's release doesn't hurt the Dolphins nearly as much as some thought if it were to happen earlier in the season.

Roth, 27, had his best season last year, when he moved from end to linebacker and started 14 games. He since lost his starting role to Jason Taylor. The emergence of Cameron Wake might have made Roth expendable. Wake has 4.5 sacks in eight games this season.

Expect Charlie Anderson, who stepped in when Joey Porter was benched and had two sacks, to be added to the regular rotation at linebacker.
