Operation Cross Country got the drop on 75 Miami-Dade pimps and prostitutes over the week during a prostitution sweep targeted at saving underage girls from a life of working the streets.
In total, 84 people were arrested in South Florida as detectives from Miami-Dade, Miami Beach and the FBI worked to end what amounts to slavery for some young girls forced to sell their bodies for someone else's profit.
"We're attempting to rescue and recover these juveniles to get them off this life they are now living in. We are putting them into different types of programs to get their lives back on track, where they actually should be,'' Miami-Dade police Sgt. Nicole Donnelly, told the Miami Herald.
In addition to combing the streets, authorities also hit the Internet to catch some of those not so savory Craig's List postings and other Web solicitations that scream prostitution.
The Herald reported a 14-year-old girl was saved during a sweep on Miami Beach, which certainly makes the effort a success.
Suspects arrested were charged with deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution (known as pimping on the streets), offering to engage in prostitution and drug possession.
