Cops: Ex-Cultist's Son Sprayed AK-47 At Swimmers

Whatever happened to, "Hey, kids, get off my lawn?"

He's the sort of character you can only find here: a pony-tailed pirate radio host who escaped murder charges with Miami's most notorious cult, called for the mayor of El Portal to be "set on fire," became nationally famous for disrupting an Obama campaign speech in protest of Oprah's plan to destroy the earth, and recorded music with "Miami Vice" star Phillip Michael Thomas.

Oh, and naturally, he's also a club promoter. But we can now add "shot at teenagers" to conservative crusader Michael Woodside's colorful resumé, though Friday evening the man who calls himself "Michael the Black Man" would be out-crazied by his own AK-47-toting son.

Police say two teenagers were at a party in North Miami Beach's Eastern Shores neighborhood about 6 p.m. when they decided to swim across a canal to jump off Woodside's 64-foot yacht "Boss."

18-year-old Alexander Martucci and an unnamed juvenile had climbed Woodside's dock and boarded his boat when the 51-year-old took notice and grabbed a gun.

Woodside shot at the pair twice, then ran inside his home to call 911 and report intruders. Spooked, the two teens dove from the boat and began swimming a hasty retreat back toward their party.

But Woodside's son Jeremiah Parham, 22, grabbed an AK-47, ran outside, and sprayed the two with gunfire until they reached the other side of the canal.

Neither was struck, but police say the incident was more than enough to charge Parham with aggravated assault.

"Jeremiah Parham had an opportunity to retreat and contact emergency personnel, but took it upon himself to continuously shoot at the 'unwanted guests' until they crossed the canal," a police release read.

Florida law does not require homeowners to retreat before returning deadly force with deadly force, according to the Miami Herald, but there were no indications the two boys were armed.

Parham remains in jail, and the two teens were charged with burglary for boarding the yacht.

Woodside, who was not charged, was a budding career criminal in the mid-80's when he joined up with black supremacist cult leader Hulon Mitchell, Jr., a.k.a. Yahweh ben Yahweh. Mitchell was indicted on federal conspiracy charges in a string of murders in the early '90s; Woodside and others were aquitted for the killings but Mitchel was found guilty. He was banned from contacting his former congregants and died of cancer in 2007.
