Customers Sue FPL for the Cold

A class action lawsuit claims FPL wasn't ready for the cold snap

When the weather outside is frightful, blame the power company.

Customers from Miami up to West Palm Beach have filed a class action lawsuit against Florida Power and Light for not being able to handle the cold snap that has hit South Florida over the past two weeks.

The lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday, claims the customers are seeking three remedies, one of which is to secure a "judicial decree that FP&L shall be required to make sure that what happened this past weekend never happens again."

We're not sure how close FP&L execs are with the sun, but they might want to open up the communication channels with the celestial body quickly. This cold weather thing could come up again.

Over the weekend, around 25,000 customers in South Florida lost power after demands on the electrical grid were too much for FP&L to handle. Some were without power for a couple of days as temperatures continued to plummet into the 30s.

The lawsuit does not specify monetary damages, but we imagine if customers are going to freeze their butts off they want to get paid for it.

It is unclear if iguanas will join the lawsuit.
