Drug-Giving Doctor Busted Buying Drugs

Holy Cross anesthesiologist arrested in meth sting

He's used to administering drugs but police say this anesthesiologist from Fort Lauderdale's Holy Cross Hospital was also dabbling in some drugs of his own.

Dr. John Habib, 54, was arrested last night after he tried to buy meth from an undercover cop, Fort Lauderdale police said.

Members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force working with the Fort Lauderdale PD and BSO arranged the sting on Habib, who bought 35 grams of crystal meth from the undercover.

When officers searched Habib's home, they found more meth as well as GHB.

Habib was charged with trafficking and possession of meth and possession of GHB.

Fort Lauderdale Police said they notified the Department of Health of Habib's arrest.

Holy Cross issued a brief statement to say they're "saddened by the reports about the personal activities of Dr. John Habib, who is a member of the group that provides contracted anesthesia services to the Hospital.

"The Hospital is committed to the care and safety of its patients and will take any actions required."
