Distraught over losing their worst road rage title to New Yorkers, Miamians are taking to the streets to claim a new distinction: America's worst drivers.
If you drive a car in the Magic City you already know you're putting your life on the line, but it looks like a new reality show on the Travel Channel is proving the point.
Called America's Worst Driver, the contest pits lead foots from Miami against lousy drivers from New York, Chicago, Boston, L.A., Dallas, Seattle and San Francisco to determine who should be given the keys and who should have to use public transportation.
And Miami seems to be holding its own.
"Miami has bad drivers, and I'm one of them," contestant Ydania Diaz told the Miami Herald.
Diaz, 30, was one of four locals who were filmed last week for the show, in which drivers went through a series of challenges, with judges gauging their lack of skills.
The prizes ranged from everything from free vacations to watching your car get destroyed. The Miami "winner" saw their car blown up, but each city has its own destruction, including a car-consuming "Robosaurus."
The worst Miami driver will get a chance to win a new car in the final competition against the other cities' worst driver.
The show's host, Alonzo Bodden, said Miamians seem to relish in their lack of car craft.
"I think Miami's proud that they're more aggressive than New York," Bodden told the Herald. "They're looking up at New York and saying 'Oh yeah? We'll run you over,' and proving it on a daily basis."
