Holy Cross Hospital's bank account will be a bit lighter after the Fort Lauderdale institution announced yesterday that it will be returning a $1 million donation from embattled lawyer Scott Rothstein.

"In light of the recent allegations involving Scott Rothstein, Holy Cross Hospital has concluded that it should not retain the funds recently gifted to it by the Rothstein Family Foundation," the hospital said in a press release yesterday.

The money was to go toward the new lobby of the hospital's women's center, which was going to be called Rothstein Family Foundation Lobby.

Now the lobby will have to find another name.

The hospital will keep the money in a trust account until authorities decide what to do with it.

Rothstein is suspected of bilking investors out of over $1 billion through an elaborate Ponzi scheme at his law firm, Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler.

Rothstein, who has given millions to charities and was a major contributor to several local and national politicians, donated the money to Holy Cross just last year.
