Police ID body as Marisol Ramon, missing since May

The family of a woman missing since May was devastated Wednesday after police identified a body found in the Everglades late last month as their loved one.

Marisol Ramon, 40, disappeared without a trace on May 26, the only clue her vehicle left behind with all her valuables.

Surveillance video captured the moments when Ramon drove her silver Toyota Yaris into the parking lot of a Miami Lakes Shopping plaza the day she went missing. Her ex-boyfriend, Roque Torres, was also seen driving behind her in the video in his grey GMC Yukon.

Miami-Dade police have tried to contact Torres but have been unsuccessful. Family members claim Torres, 60, was a dangerous person and physically abused Ramon.

Just 33 days after Ramon was reported missing, a Broward County man made a disturbing discovery, finding human remains of an unidentified person in the Everglades along U-S 27 near mile marker 45. Yesterday, authorities released the grim news that the remains are those of Marisol Ramon.

Wednesday, Ramon's family and friends did not want to comment on their loss, on how or who may have silenced their loved one.

It's a mysterious death that detectives are now hoping to solve.

"We have the responsibility of now speaking for her," said Detective Roy Rutland, of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "That responsibility means beginning this investigation, tracking down Mr. Torres and speaking with him and ultimately solving this case for her and for her family."
