Loaded Donations: Goodwill Gets the Gift of Guns

Police find a gun over 140-years old among gun donations

It's not often that a Goodwill is mistaken for a gun show, but that must have been the case with one Miami donation center Thursday.

Store employees at 2121 NW 21st St. got the shock of their life when they opened a crate that was filled with a deadly assortment of weaponry.

Along with rifles and hand guns, store employees also found a variety of knives and swords that were probably used for more than just cutting up pieces of chicken. Toy guns that looked like the real thing were also donated.

Miami Police said some of the weapons were still loaded while others were rusty.

"We encourage people if they have guns they want to give away, bring them down to the police station," Maj. Craig McQueen said.

And as an added treat, an antique rifle from 1863 was found among the artillery stash. That gun is destined to be appraised, police officials said.

Police plan to destroy the other weapons and it doesn't look like anyone will be facing charges for being so generous with their love for weapons.
