Miami High School a Finalist for Obama Graduation Speech

President Obama could be coming to MAST Academy this spring

If you are a senior at MAST Academy, graduation day could be extra sweet this spring.

While other schools get speeches from nerdy valedictorians o student body presidents, graduating seniors at MAST could get an inspirational speech from President Barack Obama.

The White House named MAST a finalist for its first annual Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge. Five other high schools from across the country will compete over the next few weeks in an Internet competition to see who will host Obama during the spring commencement ceremonies.

MAST and the other schools are required to put together a video tape illustrating how each school best fulfills Obama's goals of having students prepared for college and their career choices.

The videos will be on the White House website for the public to vote on and the top three videos will then be forwarded to Obama, who will make the final selection.

“The quality of the applications we received is a testament to the exciting work happening in schools throughout the country, and I look forward to visiting and speaking at the winning school later this spring,” Obama said in a statement.
