The impact from a U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer was so forceful it pushed the driver's seat to the passenger side of the 2001 Honda Accord, completely destroying the area of the driver's side door.
That driver, 19-year-old Hialeah resident Gloria Lopez, did not survive an early Saturday morning crash at the intersection of West 8th Avenue and West 68th Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe Lopez caused the accident by running a flashing red light right into the path of the oncoming mail truck.
The postal service employee, 37-year-old Jesus Domar, was on duty and neither injured nor found to be negligent: police said he was "totally compliant with the law" and faced only a flashing yellow as he drove through the intersection.
