Miami is reaching out to Haiti with a host of fundraisers and donation centers to help the small island nation recover from the devastating earthquake.
Julian and Kymani Marley, sons of reggae star Bob, will be headlining the "Miami for Haiti" concert tonight in the Wynwood.
The two will be performing at 7 p.m. Cafeina Lounge, with a $20 minimum donation at the door. All proceeds and donations will be split between the Project Medishare for Haiti and the Carma Foundation. In addition, concert goers can bring any non-perishable items to the show, as well as blankets and clothing.
Artist Melky Jean will also be performing at Cafeina, which is located at 297 NW 23rd Street in Miami.
“The devastation that has occurred in Haiti is unimaginable," Julian Marley said in a statement. "We must rise to the occasion to help our brothers and sisters in every way possible.”
With money, food, water, clothing and just about any other supplies you can imagine desperately needed in Haiti, South Florida is leading the way with donations and assistance.
Here are some of the ways you can help out today around town:
Radio station Power 96 is holding a fundraiser until 6 p.m. at parking lot E at Calder Casino & Race Course, in Miami Gardens.
They're looking for water, canned food, clothes and cash. Address is 21001 NW 27th Ave.
Food for the Poor is teaming up with Hot 105 for a food drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its offices in Coconut Creek. Though they cannot accept clothes, they are accepting canned fish and meat, canned milk and bottled water. They are at 6401 Lyons Road.
Starting today and running until Jan. 20, the City of North Miami is partnering with WLQY 1320 AM for a drive at North Miami Senior High School.
They are accepting bottled water, medical supplies, canned foods and dry goods, blankets and sheets and tents and air mattresses. The school is at 800 NE 137 Street.
There are a host of other ways to help out, and that information can be found here.
