Heading one of the largest police agencies in the nation can wear on anyone, and Miami-Dade Police Chief Robert Parker is no exception.

The 33-year veteran of fighting crime in Miami-Dade streets is set to retire, according to the Miami Herald. The announcement comes amidst rumors that significant cuts are coming to the Police Department's budget and staff due to the county's strained budget.

Parker was appointed chief in 2004, but could be out of his office in a flash. CBS4 reports that Parker could be out of his office by the end of the weekend, putting Mayor Carlos Alvarez in a precarious situation of finding a successor.

The police union and Alvarez have been at odds over pay and possible cuts that could effect the pension of long-time cops like Parker. Alvarez had already ordered a 5 percent cut of pay for all management level employees like Parker, who the mayor appointed to succeed him.
