Another South Florida Mom Goes Missing

Detectives have few clues to find a mom who has been missing for two weeks

What happened to Surya Toha? On March 23, she dropped her two young boys off at Hunt Elementary School in Coral Springs, and hasn't been seen since. She was driving her 2001 silver Daewoo, which has also disappeared.

"The truth is, I have no clue where she is at the moment," said her husband, Munawar Toha, at a news conference today.

Police say there's no history of domestic abuse, and Surya has never left her family in the lurch before.

"We haven't eliminated foul play," Detective Scott Myers of the Coral Springs Police said. "It's an open investigation. We're reaching out to the community for their support."

This is the second time a mother has apparently disappeared in March.

Melanie Parada of Fort Lauderdale went missing for a few days and left her 8-year-old daughter home alone. Parada was found a few days later and admitted to police she disappeared to go on a drug binge.

Toha's family claims their missing relative has no such problems or demons. Hoping his 41-year-old wife might be watching, Munawar Toha issued a direct appeal.

"My wife missing since the 23rd, please come back home, Surya. We miss you, we love you," a grieving husband said as he broke down weeping. "You see all your children miss you. Please come home!"

The 63-year-old husband said his wife would never voluntarily leave her boys, who are ages 5 and 9, saying through tears that she is a doting mom.

"She loved her kids. She is a good mother. She is very good mother," Toha said.

Surya's sister flew in from Sweden and made an appeal in their native Indonesian, saying if you're out there, please call home and tell us you're OK.

Meanwhile, police are checking to see if her ATM card or credit cards have been used. They're also searching canals to see if she may have driven into one.

Munawar Toha claims the couple did not have a fight or argument before she disappeared. It was just a normal morning with an extremely abnormal aftermath.

Now, he says, there's nothing left to do but pray that she'll show up somewhere, alive and well.
