North Miami Mayor Called Out for Sweet Ride

Budget cuts plus a Porsche equals bad move

When it comes to budgets, those of most South Florida cities and counties are looking more like a Ford Focus than a Bentley.

Or, in the case of North Miami, a Porsche.

Eyebrows began to raise when North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre began to show up places in a 2010 Porsche Panamera, according to the Miami Herald.

In general, it's always bad move for any official (just ask John Timoney) to zip around town in anything that costs more than the salaries of a couple of city employees, especially when you've just had to fire two dozen people.

Where the $100,000 ride came from is a little sketchy. Pierre first said he borrowed the car from friend David Kidd, but Kidd denied lending the car, saying that it actually belonged to his business partner Renal Roberty, who confirmed he gave the car to Pierre.

Tomato, to-mah-to, at the end of the day Pierre was still big pimpin' in a Porsche - a Porsche he didn't disclose, as is required by state and county ethics laws if it was a gift.

Three months ago, the mayor was in the news for a very different reason when he extended an invitation to Haitian earthquake victims to come live in North Miami, which would mean potentially 10,000 new residents.

In which case a two-seater wasn't the best idea.
