Pelicans Brought to Miami to Escape Oil Spill

45 brown pelicans brought to Seabird Station for rehab

A group of pelicans saved from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico have come south to Miami for a little R & R.

The 45 brown pelicans were brought to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station at 1279 Northeast 79th Street over the weekend, where they'll continue to rehabilitate after spending several days at the Fort Jackson Bird Rehabilitation Center in Buras, La.

The birds, whose ages range between 5 weeks and 10 weeks old, will stay at the Seabird Station until they can fly and be released into the wild.

The Seabird Station is a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates local wildlife, specializing in seabirds.
