Piggie Gets Boot From Palm Beach Sty

Town code says keeping pet pig in city isn't kosher

Sorry ma'am, but pigs in Palm Beach just aren't kosher.

That's what the city's Code Enforcement Board said yesterday when it told owner Kimberly Kelley that 51-pound porker Piggie Pie Freckles had to go wee, wee, wee away from home.

Kelley, who says she paints the pig's fingernails pink and sometimes lets him sleep in her bed, said the swine is a part of her family.

"He does not bother anybody," Kelley told the Palm Beach Daily News. "He's just my baby."

But town code says no "swine class" animals are allowed to live in town, so Piggie Pie has to go bye-bye.

The pig has until Monday to get off the island, and Kelley, who bought the pig for her daughter, Ashley, said the 7 year old will be devastated.

"[She] loves the pig the best," Kelley said.

Code enforcement officers discovered the pig after an anonymous tip, and now that the board has ordered it out of town, Kelley is facing fines of $250 a day for keeping Piggie Pie around.

The Viatnamese potbelly pet is domesticated, and enjoys spending time with Kelley's cat, Witty Witty the Kittie in their Brazilian Avenue apartment.

Kelley plans on trying to fight the ruling, but for now she'll have to find a new sty for Piggie Pie.
