Police say an armed man wearing a mask raped a woman in Coconut Grove early this morning.

The woman was waiting for her boyfriend inside her car on Virginia Street around 3:30 a.m. when a man forced her into the passenger’s seat. He drove to an ally behind a complex where, the woman says, he raped her.

According to police, the suspect also stole the woman’s keys and wallet.

A similar incident took place on Halloween just a few blocks away, when a man with a similar description sexually assaulted a woman walking towards her townhome.

Police spokesperson Jeff Giordano said that although both incidents are similar, they’re not sure if the same man was involved in both cases.

“We don’t want to create panic, but we do want people to heighten their security awareness,” said Giordano.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
