Real Estate With a Side of Philanthropy

Javier Bellon knows real estate. He has been selling and renting homes and apartments throughout South Florida for nearly a decade.

But once a week you'll find him working the streets of Downtown Miami, and we're not talking showing condos. Bellon provides food to those who can't afford it. He calls it Feed My City, an organization created, funded and run just by him.

"You know life has been good to us," says Bellon. "We can't complain and so you have to give back and that's what we do."

Bellon is very humble about his organization, he doesn't like to talk about but he funds "Feed My City" out of his own pocket. He spends $50 a week to make 50 lunches, which he likes to call "dollar lunches."

In each bag you'll find canned food, bread, cookies, a bottle of water, along with a napkin and fork. Then, he sets up his table on the sidewalk and fills it with bagged lunches. Homeless men and women start lining up as soon as he arrives. Some of them even know him by name.

"He has a very good heart and he does it from the bottom of his heart," says Peter, who lives on the streets. "When we see things like that, it gives us an idea that people still care out there, and it gives us hope and the ability to keep going."

"I tell people why not. We go out at night and spend $100 on dinner, maybe $50, and we go out to a bar and get two drinks and that's $30," said Bellon. "These lunches cost me a dollar each, so for those $30, I can feed 30 people. I cut off one night out and do this. This way its a lot better.

Bellon has launched a new website called IRentMiami.com, where you will be able to browse apartments and homes for rent throughout South Florida, anywhere from Brickell to Hialeah. Every time someone rents with Bellon, not only will you get a $50 gift card toward decorating or fixing your home, Bellon will also donate a portion of his commission to Feed My City.

"These gentlemen here, unfortunately, are going through a rough patch," says Bellon. "We have to help them out see if we get them a job, see if we get them something and see if we can get them a house get them back on their feet. We are all humans and are all one network and that's what it is, we have to help out."

If you are looking for a place to rent or just want to make a contribution to Feed My City, you can visit www.irentmiami.com, where there is a section for Feed My City where you can make donations.
