Arrest Made in Liberty City Shooting of Teen, 1-Year Old

Luis Hernandez was the gunman who shot a teen in Liberty City Monday: Police

As tempers and concerns over gun violence were about to reach a fever pitch in Liberty City, Miami police have announced they have the person responsible for a shooting earlier this week that sent a teen and a toddler to the hospital.

Luis Hernandez, 16, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder and assault with a firearm for allegedly shooting 17-year-old James Taylor in the head on his mom's front porch. Another bullet from Hernandez entered the house and struck a 1-year-old girl in the leg.

Police believe the shooting may be gang related. Hernandez told investigators he was part of the 12th Court Cowboys, a gang in the area, but denies shooting Taylor.

The arrest may ease some tension between police and Liberty City residents who have been critical of the lack of police presence in the area.

Taylor is one of a hand full of gun victims in recent months in Liberty City. He is still in critical condition.
