Palmetto High's yearbook staff will have to scramble to put out a book this year.

Palmetto Senior High School seniors may want to start whipping out their camera phones and taking all the pics they can because they might leave the school without a yearbook this year.

That's because the yearbook staff had their offices ransacked over the weekend as thieves broke in the school and stole several computers, including the ones that contained all of the yearbook photos and materials for this school year.

Surveillance video cameras at the school caught the caper as hooded suspects carried out the computer equipment.

In all, eight computers were stolen with over 3,000 photos taken by students. But what they really stole were memories.

"It's really sad," said Kurt Panton, the yearbook class adviser. "My heart just sunk. It's material, but what I saw missing was all the hard work."

Police said the suspects used a silver Honda Civic as a get-away car and hoped that might lead to an arrest. One school board detective said the group seemed to know their target well and went straight for the yearbook offices.

As for the students, there are a few more months to put together enough memories to capture the 2009 school year. But first, they have to put this bad memory behind them.
