University of Miami police have re-opened campus after responding to a call that someone was shooting a BB gun on the Coral Gables campus.

Police have four people in custody but have not released many details on what happened. At least one student was hit by the flying BB pellets.

"An ALL CLEAR has been issued regarding the incident on campus. Suspects are in custody. The campus is safe and secure and has been reopened. More details are forthcoming," an university statement said.

Amy Winokur said her daughter, Katie, was shot in the arm while she was leaving the cafeteria Friday. The freshman was OK, but her mom said she fears for her safety on campus.

The campus newspaper, the Miami Hurricane, reported the school has been on lockdown since about 2:45 p.m. as police search for the suspect.

A text alert asked members of the community to “go/remain indoors, lock all doors/windows, stay away from windows and do not open locked doors for anyone.”

Police have not confirmed what may have sparked the incident or if there is a victim and what condition that person might be. It is also unclear on if a student was involved.

Police claim the random BB gun shots came from a late model Volvo carrying four people driving near the Hecht-Stanford Dining Hall/ Wellness Center.
