Welcome Back, Yak!

Cops catch fugitive who was on the run for nearly 10 years

Yakoub Levy has been wanted in Fort Lauderdale for a long time. A really long time.

The 29-year-old skipped town nearly 10 years ago, right around the time he was being investigated in connection with a homicide that happened way back on Feb. 4, 2000.

Two other suspects had been arrested for the homicide but the trail on Levy went cold. That was until Levy was located in Jamaica, and the Fort Lauderdale Police went to work trying to bring him back to South Florida.

Working with the FBI Fugitive Task Force, United States Marshall Service, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the police were finally able to bring Levy back to Fort Lauderdale. He made his return yesterday.

"The effort of all agencies involved is remarkable and has not only led to a violent fugitive being taken into custody but it also provides additional closure for the victim's family," Sgt. Frank Sousa said, in a press release.

Levy is facing four charges, including abuse of a dead body and accessory after the fact.
