Police in Ft. Lauderdale are looking for the SUV driver who hit two women and then left them in the roadway.

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when Carolyn Bianco and Victoria Kirby were crossing Las Olas Blvd. near 11th Ave. when a black sport utility vehicle rolled up and hit both women.

The driver just kept going.

Medics rushed both victims to Broward General Medical Center. Kirby was slightly hurt and was released from the hospital on Thursday. Bianco has a serious head injury and is in the intensive care unit.

Marilyn Handrahan, who was at a restaurant near the crash scene, heard the collision. “It was that loud where it sounded like two cars,” she said. “We heard a screeching sound where somebody was obviously stepping on their brakes, but still it ended up being two people.”

Andrea Preti, who was working nearby, saw the commotion and tried to help the victims. “I was helping her and she didn’t know what happened, she didn’t know she got hit,” said Preti. “The lady who was behind her was hurt pretty bad.”

Investigators have talked with witnesses and they’re also checking with nearby businesses to see if security cameras captured the crash.

“There was a piece of the vehicle left behind on the scene,” said Ft. Lauderdale Police Sergeant Frank Sousa. “Our investigators will work with local dealers to try and pinpoint the exact make and model of that car.”
