A Fort Lauderdale woman appeared in federal court Friday after being accused of filing more than 1,000 fraudulent tax returns and receiving $9.5 million in tax refunds, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Alci Bonanee, 35, was charged with conspiracy to submit false claims to the government, according to a report.

Authorities said Bonanee and her accomplices submitted the false tax returns from January 2011 through June 2012. The funds were then deposited into bank accounts and withdrawn in cash, officials said.
