1 Killed, 2 Injured in Wrong-Way Wreck on Turnpike in Broward County

One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a wrong-way wreck on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County early Thursday.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. when a Ford F-150 that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes veered onto the shoulder near Sunrise Boulevard, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The truck overturned several times, ejecting the three people inside, the report said.

One person, 47-year-old Daniel Laguna of Coconut Creek, was killed at the scene. Two others, 26-year-old Greysi Yajaira Flores Bonilla and 35-year-old Yokairi Paredes Diasz, both from North Carolina, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Broward Health.

It's unknown who was driving the truck, the report said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
