1 Person Dead, 1 Injured After Same Driver Struck Them in Separate Crashes: Fort Lauderdale Police

A pedestrian was struck and killed near Northwest 7th Avenue and West Broward Boulevard, police said

One person is dead and another injured after both were struck by the same car along West Broward Boulevard Friday evening, police said.

Fort Lauderdale Police said the driver did remain on scene, but authorities said it wasn't immediately clear what led up to the crashes.

Late Friday evening, police could only confirm a pedestrian was struck and killed near Northwest 7th Avenue and West Broward Boulevard, and that a second person on a bike was hit by the same car along Northwest 5th Avenue and Broward.

Officials said the driver was traveling eastbound on Broward along the 700 block, when something seemed wrong.

"He believed he may have struck something," said Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Greenlaw. "He drives down to 5th Avenue and Broward to make a U-turn. That’s when he strikes a pedestrian.”

The surviving victim on the bicycle was rushed to Broward Health North in serious condition. No identities are being released until the families are notified.

Authorities said they will analyze nearby surveillance footage to piece together what happened, and determine any charges the driver could face.

In a third incident Friday night, a pedestrian was struck at State Road 84 and 20th Avenue, Greenlaw said. That person was in critical condition at Broward Health Medical Center.
