2 Toddler Girls Pulled From Pools After Separate Near-Drownings

Two toddler girls were pulled from a pool hours apart in separate near-drownings in Broward Friday evening . A one-year-old girl was pulled from a family pool by a sibling at a home in Coral Springs, and a three-year-old girl was found floating in an apartment pool in Pembroke Pines.

The one-year-old girl, identified as Manaal Mohiuddin, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Coral Springs Fire Rescue said. A neighbor, who asked to not to be identified, told NBC 6 she heard the screaming coming from inside the home on Northwest 55th Street and 109th Avenue.

"We ran into the house and called 911," said the unidentified neighbor. The little girl had no pulse when paramedics arrived, and she was taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

The child's nine-year-old sibling found her in the pool where there was a safety fence in place, officials said.

"It's a screen-enclosed patio. It looks like there might be a little bit of a play area. Don't know if the child was back there playing around," said Capt. Brad McKeone, Coral Springs Police. It's unclear how the little girl got through the fence and if the child was supervised.

"It's a traumatic experience. For those who have kids, I'm sure it's even much more traumatic," said Capt. McKeone.

Earlier in the afternoon, another toddler was pulled from a swimming pool in Pembroke Pines. Three-year-old Brittney Lumas was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital after she was found floating face down in the pool at the Arium Apartments on Pembroke Road.

Little Lumas survived, and doctors are optimistic she will make a full recovery.

The girl's mother lost track of the toddler during an event at the swimming pool, Pembroke Pines police said. Someone eventually found the child and pulled her from the water and began administering CPR.

Officials credited bystanders and first responders with saving Little Lumas' life.
