1 Suspect Arrested, 2 Wanted for Armed Carjacking: MDPD

The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking and shooting in Miami-Dade, which resulted in two men being hospitalized and one suspect being taken into custody. A search is on for two additional subjects.

Investigators said the incident began with the two victims meeting three subjects at an abandoned residence at 25356 Southwest 135th Court Tuesday night. The reasons for the meeting were not immediately clear.

Police said, once at the property, three black males confronted the victims with firearms and stole their property. One of the victims was shot and the other pistol whipped.

The suspects fled in the victim's rental vehicle: a burgundy 2010 Ford Taurus with tag 131-LAY.

Officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and fled. He was chased to an area in the City of Coral Gables, where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers, K-9 and aviation units saturated the area and took the driver, 17-year-old Deandre Johnson, into custody.

Johnson was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center and has since been charged with grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding, and resisting an officer without violence.

The two victims, who were transported to nearby hospitals, are listed in stable condition.

The other two suspects are still on the run. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
